Darjeeling - Getting There

Darjeeling is located in the eastern Himalayas in northern West Bengal at a height of 6,814 ft. It happens to be one of the most well-connected hill stations of north-east India. Darjeeling is well connected by roads. It would be good if one could walk and explore the town of Darjeeling; however jeeps and Land traveler are available on hire.  The State Transport runs buses from various places and private buses also work. The two Rail Routes to Darjeeling are provided by New Jalpaiguri and Siliguri. New Jalpaiguri Railway Station (NJP), a vital link and stoppage, efficiently connects Darjeeling to Kolkata along with north and west part of India. Almost all the trains plying to north east region passes through New Jaipaiguri Railway Station, thereby, providing successful linkages to Guwahati, Mumbai and Varanasi as well other parts and provinces in India. NJP (New Jalpaiguri) is 80 km from the Darjeeling and approximately 8 km to the south of Siliguri. Also, vacationists can take up a joy ride on the Toy Trains through these stations. Bagdogra, 96 km away, is the nearest airport, connected to Kolkata, Delhi, and Guwahati. From here a bus or private taxi can get you to Darjeeling in 3 hours.
